Jump from sky

Bodensee (Germany), early afternoon. The kind of summer stillness you come here for — flat water, hazy light, nothing that needs doing.
Then the sound. A military aircraft crossing overhead, and the whole afternoon changed shape. My family knows that sound intimately, though not from airshows — we learned it in 1999, during the bombing of the country we used to live in. For a moment none of us said anything.
Then the plane opened and people started falling out of it.

Whatever the sound had done to us, the sight did something else: it made me curious. I reached for the camera I’d brought and put the Sony 70-350 to work, trying to hold those small figures against a very large sky.
